You’ve seen the bumper sticker. It says coexist. Sounds great. Simple. Who wouldn’t want all humans to live together in harmony?
Here is the problem. There should be an asterisk on the bumper sticker. And then some small print. “Except Christians” Sadly tolerance, inclusiveness, and acceptance do not apply to Christianity in the world we live in. Coexist in its current manifestation appears to be at the expense of Christians.
Most of what I find wrong with liberal theology exists in Political Correctness. Political correctness would have one believe that Christianity is in fact the problem instead of the solution. This should come as no surprise. Political correctness is a tool to eliminate opposing views, eliminate competition, and police and regulate the thoughts and actions of everyone under its umbrella. It’s a big umbrella. And very unfriendly to non liberal theology.
Bob Dylan wrote a song once. In it he explains the principal that human nature has built in it the need and desire to worship or serve something. From a Biblical perspective it boils down to a battle between man letting God be God or man making himself god in God’s place. This forms the basis for all religion. Including liberalism. So liberal theology defines a religion based on man sidestepping his Creator. Mr Dylan also makes the point in his song that any old thing will do as a substitute for the real thing. Mankind has proven over time that it will almost always choose the substitute over the real thing. Biblically speaking this is known as mankind’s ability and desire from birth to do the wrong thing.
This week an event occurred that once again proved how ineffective liberal policies including gun free zones are. In addition it proved how unskilled and ineffective our government is in vetting people applying for a visa. Yet another terrorist attack on US soil. And oddly enough, it opened the gates for an increased wave of Christian bashing. Mocking of Christian principals and beliefs is nothing new. It’s been occurring since Adam and Eve got evicted from the garden. And it isn’t going to go away.
As a Christian I find these thing disturbing. In a country founded on the principal that a person can worship as they please, that person should be able to do just that. World wide and local persecution of Christians is offensive to me. Christianity will not go away. Neither will the enemies of Christianity. It’s the world we live in.
Bob Dylan was correct. You’re going to serve someone. Choose wisely my friends. God bless America.
